Best Day Ever

December 12, 2024 Reviews No Comments

No trip to Tennessee would be complete without a stop at Dollywood. I have made multiple trips there over the years. There is always a feeling of comfort and joy spending the day at the park, especially during the Christmas season. From the cinnamon bread to the tasting menu, the train and of course the beautiful lights there is definitely something for everyone. But now they have added the Dolly Parton Experience which is really something to behold.

It is composed of multiple buildings with interactive elements taking you on a journey through
her life and career. The first building is Songteller. The entrance features a beautiful larger then
life pink butterfly. As you move through this exhibit you will see things you may already know
about Dolly and as always learn something new. The final room is a 360 degree area where you
are treated to a six minute documentary. And Dolly performing “I Will Always Love You”. One of
my favorite parts was a live digital counter of how many books have been given away by her
Imagination Library Program (which my granddaughter was one of the recipients through the
years.) We see what a charitable person she has been through the years, one of many reasons
she is so beloved.

Behind the Seams is like walking into her closet. We see many of her wigs and iconic outfits.
Precious Memories (Dreamsong theatre) takes us on a journey highlighting family and friends
that were instrumental in her career and success. Her niece Heidi Parton now has a show “Heidi Parton’s Kin and Friends.”

On the way out Dolly’s tour bus is available for a walk through. You can feel what it is like to
travel along with her on the road. The whole exhibit inside and out is visually stunning. Take your time, you can move through it as quickly or slowly as you like.

We spent quite a bit of time in the park and my boyfriend can never get enough of the
“Christmas In The Smokies” show. I believe we saw it three times this trip. We never tire of it.
My only disappointment was the absence of the LED tree that tells the story of the bear. They
are building a new restaurant in that area so it is currently blocked off. But that said a day in
Dollywood is still “The best day ever.”

As I make my way though Dollywood every year during my birthday I am reminded why this park continues to win awards. Hearing Dolly sing through the park, the shows, the beauty of the season and being in the mountains what more could you ask for. It always gives me a feeling of peace and serenity, something we all need in our lives.

As we approach 2025 it will be the 40th anniversary of Dollywood. I can’t wait to see what
exciting things are in store for this momentous occasion.
