Rooh: A delicious journey through Indian food
Don’t walk, run to Chicago’s newest restaurant Rooh in the busy and exciting restaurant district on Randolph Street. But you may have to wait a bit for a reservation. And I can tell you it is well worth the wait.
The environment is pleasant. It has two levels of ample, comfortable seating. The second level has windows overlooking the street and a skylight that makes the room bright and airy.
The specialty drinks are delicious, potent and visually appealing. They are inspired by Ayurveda which blends unique Indian shrubs and spices. Two standout drinks for me were the Kimamoto Cup and Pink City.
Rooh means soul or spirit which is what renowned Chef Sujan Sakar brings with the freshest of ingredients and richest of flavors. The menu has small plates (appetizers) and large plates (entrees). The small bites packed huge flavor. The main courses continued to be as impressive. They have a modern interpretation of Indian food while staying true to the authentic Indian flavors. Some of the standout items were green peas and goat cheese Kulcha, lamb Keema Hyderabadi, traditional butter chicken and a very tasty sea bass. For dessert be sure to try the carrot halwa cake.
You really can’t go wrong with anything you order. My boyfriend who is not a big fan of Indian flavors thought this was some of the best food he has had in a long time.
I highly recommend Rooh for a wonderful evening of food and drink.
